Conversations: Matt McCarthy, MD

Synopsis

Emily sits down with Dr. Matt McCarthy, an infectious disease specialist who researches drug-resistant microbes, to talk about his book, Superbugs.

First, we have Matt reading an excerpt from his book. Then, Matt and Emily discuss the history of physicians committing crimes under the guise of medical research, including the infamous Tuskegee syphilis experiment that victimized black men in Alabama, as well as the experiments conducted by the Nazis on concentration camp prisoners during World War II.
